Akl Masr: a restaurant and menu directory for Egypt

Akl Masr is an Arabic platform for discovering restaurants in Egypt and part of ENS.EG, which built and runs it: over 1,700 restaurant pages with menus, prices, opening hours and contact details, organised by governorate, city, district, cuisine and brand, and built from the ground up for local search.

The challenge

People looking for a restaurant in Egypt want specific answers: what is nearby, is it open now, what is on the menu and at what price, and how do I reach it? That information is scattered across social pages, maps and menu photos, and much of it is outdated or undated.

The goal was an Arabic platform that brings this data together in clear, fast pages, stays accurate as menus and prices differ between branches, and reaches search engines with thousands of pages without turning into duplicate content or unreliable data.

What we built

ENS.EG built Akl Masr on a structured data model: each restaurant has a single record that generates its whole page, from the menu with its sections, items and prices to daily opening hours, address and map location, phone and WhatsApp, amenities and payment methods. The platform publishes no description for a restaurant it has no data for.

The same data generates a network of local-search pages: a page for every governorate, city and district, pages combining a cuisine with a city such as "grills in Cairo", and brand pages listing branches with each branch’s menu. Every menu states which branch its prices belong to and when it was last updated.

Each restaurant page carries full Schema.org structured data: the restaurant, address, coordinates, opening hours, the menu with its items and prices, and FAQs, alongside separate sitemaps for every page type and an llms.txt file that explains the site’s structure to AI assistants and how to read its prices accurately.

  • A complete page for every restaurant

Menu, prices, hours, address, map, phone, WhatsApp, amenities, payment methods and photos, with one-tap directions, call, WhatsApp, share and save.

  • Detailed menus with update dates

Sections, items and prices in EGP, search within the menu, and a visible last-updated date on every menu.

  • Browse by location

Governorates, cities and districts, plus pages that combine a cuisine with a city, such as "grills in Cairo".

  • Brands and their branches

A page for each restaurant chain listing its branches across cities and each branch’s menu.

  • "Open now" and quick filters

Open status computed from each day’s hours, with filters for cuisines and amenities such as Wi-Fi and outdoor seating.

  • The "What should we eat today?" tool

Suggests three options by city, cuisine and budget, with the menu and one-tap sharing to WhatsApp.

  • Tools for restaurant owners

Add a new restaurant, claim ownership of a listed one to manage its data after signing in, and report incorrect data.

  • Ratings with a clear source

Google Maps ratings shown as indicative data with their source, plus local reviews from visitors.

  • Ready for search engines and AI

Schema.org data for restaurants and menus, sitemaps per page type, an llms.txt file, and search and saved pages kept out of the index.
